Each month EQ8 challenges designers to use a particular block in a quilt. These are then posted for others to see. This month’s challenge was the Pinwheel Block based on a 5 patch.
Since the pinwheel block had corner stone patches, I thought the hourglass block would be a nice complement to it and provide some continuity. Then, I chose a quilt layout with a central medallion set on point, my favorite setting. Once the blocks were set around the quilt, I needed to pick a vibrant fabric to set off the blocks. Bali Batiks Winter’s Magic by Hoffman was a nice choice. The black and teal would provide great contrast when mixed with white. I couldn’t find any of this material online but Fat Quarter Shop has some comparable batiks from Lunn Fabrics.
The finished quilt design was quite impressive!

Happy Quilting!
