Sun Spots

I will claim to be neither wise nor foolish. My silence is because I have been very busy developing some new things to share!

First, we have several new patterns about to be published. They are in various stages of testing and/or editing so you will see those very soon.  These patterns, which feature beautiful fabrics by Hoffman, Northcott, Timeless Treasures, and Windham, will be posted in our shop as soon as they are ready. We will highlight them in upcoming blogs 🙂

We also have five new free patterns being published through Timeless Treasures! These include Sun Spots, Lancaster, Rocket Man, Four Centered, and Florist Shop.

Second, I have been working on a patriotic quilt top for the July/August 2022 issue of McCalls. The quilt features Stonehenge Stars and Stripes by Northcott. The depth of these fabrics is incredible. I would love to share the quilt with you, but you will just have to wait for the magazine to be published!

Of course, I saved the biggest news for last. Tourmaline & Thyme Quilts is officially teaching! We have two workshops ready for guilds and shops – Snowflake Whimsy and BLING!

The Snowflake Whimsy workshop is a 6-hour class (preferably divided into two 3-hour sessions), which will enable students to make a checkerboard wheel without sewing any curved seams and add fusible appliques to complete the whimsical wintry quilt top.  Fusible applique kits using Hoffman batiks are available for the Snowflake Whimsy workshop to minimize the prep work and maximize the fun.

BLING is a 3-hour workshop and can be combined with the Snowflake Whimsy workshop. BLING will explain how to embellish a quilt with threads, fabrics, and notions. Students will audition BLING on mini quilts (9″ pieced tops). We will be adding to these selections as we grow. These workshops are offered via Zoom at this time.

We are working with Teachable to be able to offer classes similar to these for individuals. The classes will be self-paced and offer times for live question/answer sessions. We hope to launch them in January!

If you have any questions about the workshop, including how to book one, please email lsmith@tourmalinethymequilts.com.

Time to get back to my sewing as I have lots to finish before Christmas!

Happy Quilting!
