Do you want to add names, words, or phrases to your quilts but aren’t confident in your handwriting? Or maybe the simple stencils at the local office store are just too boring? I am right there with you.

Full disclosure — when I learned how to use Canva fonts to create words I could trace for appliqué, embroidery, quilting, painting, or whatever craft you play in, I was over the moon. No more struggling with uniform lettering or feeling like a fourth grader did it better. And this is coming from someone who aced drafting in college. 😄

I have shared this technique in past classes, and yes — more of those are coming! But like any new skill, you forget it if you don’t use it. So I created So Sew — a free design to get you practicing your wordsmithing with fabric.

You can appliqué it, quilt it, paint it, stitch it — whatever craft is calling your name. I just want to see what you create with it.

Come Sew with Me

I have finished my mini quilt and would love to share the process with you. Maybe it will inspire you to finish your block? If you want to follow along step-by-step, here is a link directly to the first video in the series: YouTube Video

In the series, I will share with you how to:

  • Transfer the design
  • Make templates
  • Create the applique
  • Place and fuse the applique
  • Secure and quilt the appliques
  • Couching yarn for a little embellishment
  • Echo quilting
