Christmas or Lenten Rose (Hellebore)

February brings two thoughts to mind, Valentine’s Day and snow. Both make me wish for flowers.  My sweetheart of a hubby always gives me beautiful flowers, which I set in my studio. They help me to smile all day long. On the other hand, snow makes me long for the days when I can see the flowers in my garden again. I do get few Christmas or Lenten roses (Hellebore) that bloom during the dead of winter. But I long for the vibrant colors of spring, summer and fall.

This love of color is one of the reasons I love quilting and have become quite the fabric addict. It allows me to fill my days with color, even when Mother Nature is frozen or dreary. During the cold months, I am particularly drawn to reds. Maybe that is because red symbolizes strength and energy. Something I need to get through the winter doldrums.

Regardless of the reason, I simply adore the new Rowan collection from Windham fabrics. The gorgeous reds and florals are my sweet spot in February. And guess what, these new fabrics ship this month too!

Rohan Rouge – copyright Tourmaline & Thyme Quilts

Of course, these lovely fabrics deserved a pretty pattern to show them off, like Rohan Rouge.  A few frame-style blocks facilitate fussy cutting florals. (Yes, I had a little fun with that alliteration.) The red and papaya points from the Flying Geese and Half Square Triangles give that cheery pop of color to keep things bright. At 55″ square, Rohan Rouge is a perfect throw sized quilt for the back of your couch, end of the bed, or anywhere you want to add a little cheer.

We hope Rohan Rouge brings you a little happy color to your day. The pattern is available in our shop for retail and wholesale.

Happy Quilting!
