Quilt Block Mania is looking upward! Our theme this month is Up in the Air. As someone who spent the better part of my life flying here, there and everywhere for work – I immediately thought of a Pilot for my nutcracker. And I am so happy.

I encourage you to visit these wonderful designers to see what spin they have put on this topic!

I am continuing my individual theme of nutcrackers. Why?

Because I have a collection of nutcrackers and have been itching to turn them into quilt blocks.

Quilt Block Mania requires that we use 12″ blocks. However, I want to do something a little different. My blocks are still 12-inches but are easily adapted to 6″ x 12″ blocks.

Of course, you can make the blocks bigger if you really, really like nutcrackers!

You can collect them all year to make a Nutcracker quilt, runner or a bunch of mini-quilts. The use is up to you.

This month, we are looking up and for me that means flying. Since I know commercial airlines the better than others, my pilot is like the one that greeted me this morning on my way to h+h!

This is the time to raid your scrap bin and have a little fun. Maybe a little vinyl for the glasses? Or some ribbon for his uniform? How about beads for buttons. Maybe you even have a pin for his wings??

Stay tuned this month for the details on how I made my block.
