Woven Petals

A few years ago, my whole family somehow had the exact same idea for my Christmas gift. A package arrived from my sister. Then one from my dad. Then my youngest son showed up with a third box, same size as the other two. I waited until Christmas to open any of them. Each one held a birdhouse from my favorite vendor. Bright paint, copper cutout ornamentation, absolutely adorable. We hung all three outside, and that first year, every single house filled up with sparrows. They stuffed those little houses with twigs, leaves, yarn, even dog hair, anything they could scavenge. My yard was full of joy again.

That same woven, twiggy texture inspired the border on this quilt, framing a gorgeous sparrow panel the way those birds framed their own little homes. Backyard buddies, front and center.
