Description
Every so often, I get a challenge from my fabric friends. Banyan asked me to create a unique design with 2 1/2-inch strip from their Cinnamon Tree collection. When you take on such a challenge, you try to use all of the strip to minimize waste.
When this challenge came around, I had been playing with the idea of Celtic knots. So, I decided to blend the two ideas together to create Spice Mill. The true challenge was the placement of fabrics to balance the design while optimizing the use of strips.
Once the right balance of color and fabric were established, I had to figure out how to piece it in the easiest way to piece it. It made sense to make strip sets where possible and subcut the pieces. The result was more of a Gordian knot than a Celtic knot, but so worth it!
If you like puzzles, this is the Spice Mill is the quilt pattern for you! Not only is it beautiful, but it is fun to assemble.
