Description
My aunt was an amazing seamstress. She made me a beautiful ballgown once, white with red flocked flowers, and she sewed every stitch of her own clothes, plus her girls’ clothes, including their wedding gowns. She learned it all from my grandmother, who could take apart and remake clothing for each of her five kids without missing a beat. My mom sewed for us too, right up until her hands wouldn’t let her anymore. And ironically, none of them ever had a fancy dress form to work with. Each kid just had to hold still and hope for the best, or risk getting pinned. If you know, you know.
This quilt is a love letter to all of that. A dress form takes center stage, surrounded by pieced sewing notions and a panel that reads “Collect Scraps of Happiness,” because that’s really what generations of sewing add up to.
