Several years ago, my husband and I took a cruise around the Mediterranean. It was on my bucket list, and I signed up for every excursion I could. I didn’t want to miss a thing, because I didn’t know if I’d ever get back. My husband took one look at that list and asked exactly how many churches I planned to visit in two weeks. He made a few excellent substitutions. Cooking with a master chef in Split. Walking the walls and a wine tasting in Dubrovnik. A gondola ride and concert in Venice. I still managed to see plenty of holy places, and I was always struck by the beauty and craftsmanship. Each evening, I sketched the patterns that had caught my eye in walls, windows, gardens, and skylines. The floors of San Marco in Venice, though? They floored me.
That floor became this quilt. Rings of triangles radiate outward from a glowing center in coral pink and soft blue-gray, set against deep charcoal or a soft blush background. It has the grandeur of a cathedral floor, and you can make it in either colorway.

Introduction: Inspired by the cathedral floors of Europe, San Marco is a fabulous foundation pieced quilt pattern. There are not any curved pieced to this circular design.
