I’ve always dreamed of retiring in a log cabin. Funny thing, since I’ve moved around a lot. My parents started us in an old two-family house, graduated to a ranch, then a Cape Cod in the mountains, then a little turn-of-the-century prairie half. And that was all before I turned 17. I kept moving after that. Dorm rooms in Cleveland, downtown apartments in Cincinnati, my first split ranch, a Victorian Italianate, a Craftsman bungalow, a Southern homestead, a big colonial, and now a little farmhouse. I think a beach house and a log cabin are the only two I’m still missing.

Maybe that’s why log cabin quilts have always felt like a comfort zone for me. This one, built from twelve classic log cabin blocks with a rugged Western panel tucked into the mix, feels like the closest I’ve gotten yet.
