Most quilters treat a border stripe as a border. I treated it as a layer cake.
The Regalia collection from Elizabeth’s Studio features a stunning border stripe — large medallions alternating with smaller ones, all wrapped in glorious color. The expected approach would be to cut those stripes parallel to the selvedge and frame the quilt. Predictable. Pretty. Done a thousand times.
Instead, I cut perpendicular to the selvedge. Straight through the heart of those medallions, exposing every layer at once — large, small, large — three gorgeous bands revealed like slices of something extraordinary. Then I echoed the colorways of the stripe itself in the separating sashes, giving each band its own breathing room and letting every layer shine on its own terms.
Prism-style multi-colored borders frame the whole composition, picking up the jewel tones running through the fabric and tying it all together with a little extra wow.
One pattern. Seven colorways — Black, Cream, Maroon, Orange, Purple, Royal, and Turquoise. Just swap the colorway in the SKU and the whole quilt transforms.
