Description
Growing up in the Adirondacks, bear awareness was a must. When we went berry picking, we were told to stay with the cows, who would sense the bear before we would. And if a bear approached — give him the berries and high-tail it out of there.
Neighbors would alert each other if the bears were really active. One day, our neighbor called Mom to let her know. She called us and the dogs in. We had no sooner gotten in the house than the bear came lumbering up our front yard. She stopped by the front window, stood on her hind legs and peeked in at us. The dogs were barking, but Mom told us to freeze anyway. It is something I will never forget! The bear sniffed around and then moseyed to the next neighbor down the hill.
The minute I saw this panel, I knew it needed a bigger window — just like the one from my childhood.
