Description
Fall in the Adirondacks ruined me for every other autumn I’ve lived through since. I’ve watched leaves turn in a handful of states now, and none of them come close. Up there, the mountains don’t just change color — they perform. Bright yellow gives way to orange, orange deepens into red and brown, and then the sun gets involved. Watch a hillside long enough and you’ll see it shift again as the light moves and the shadows shorten — the same trees looking like an entirely different forest by late afternoon.
That’s the quilt I wanted to make. Sunburst and Shadows takes that push and pull of light and color and builds it into a medallion that radiates outward — sun, sunset, persimmon, and poppy blazing through the center, with black doing the quiet work of shadow around every edge. It’s the kind of piece that catches your eye from across a room and still has something new to show you up close.
