Description
Sometimes the best designs aren’t planned — they’re discovered.
I was playing with blocks, chasing a diagonal effect that just wasn’t working. So I did what any frustrated designer does: I started spinning them. Rotating, flipping, trying anything. And then it happened. One configuration stopped me cold. The blocks looked like they were sliding — one pushing under another, each row disrupting the next.
Subduction. The geological term for when one tectonic plate slides beneath another. It fit so perfectly I didn’t even have to think about the name.
Timeless Treasures’ Tonga Riverside batiks — in a palette that moves from deep navy and midnight through warm terra and clay to soft alpine and apricot — give the diagonal rows a sense of depth and motion that makes the whole quilt feel alive.

Introduction: Subduction is when one tectonic plate slides under another. The blocks of this look like one block is sliding under another.
