Description

I love roses, but not the long-stem bouquets from the flower shop. They are pretty, but don’t seem real without the scent and the thorns. I love the ones in my garden. Puffy blossoms, heady perfume, velvety petals that are never quite perfect. The ones with thorns, thriving on nothing more than coffee grounds and neglect. I don’t tame them. I let them run wild.

There are only a few days when those blooms hit near-perfect. Then they start to fall apart. I’ve come to appreciate that part just as much. It’s a reminder of how fleeting beauty really is, and how each day deserves to be cherished for exactly what it is: a moment, not a guarantee.

This Queen of Hearts carries that same reminder. One glorious, oversized rose built entirely from foundation-pieced petals, blooming at the center of every quilt lucky enough to hold her.
