Meadow Mosaic

Description

There was a farm across the street from the house where I spent my middle school years. Four horses — a bay, a dun, and a pair of chestnuts — retired and living their best lives, according to my mom. To me they were magnificent. I spent hours picking wildflowers along that fence line, watching them. Mom’s rule was firm: no petting, no feeding, no approaching without permission from the owner. They were big. I was a pixie. And they were not mine to touch.

You don’t need anyone’s permission to enjoy this one.

The Hoffman “Winter Wind Stable” panel brings all of that back — the cold air, the bare trees, the quiet power of horses in a winter pasture. The border design earns its name: small and large diamonds alternate around the panel like fence posts catching the light, close enough to feel the scene without crowding it. Warm earthy tones in Breakers, Earth, Sable, and Wheat keep the whole quilt grounded in that late-season palette, and the fussy-cut Sable stripe border wraps everything in a final frame that feels intentional and finished.

At 56″ × 66″ and rated Confident Beginner, this pattern builds real skills — Flying Geese, Diamond in Square (both sizes), Point Blocks — without overwhelming. A satisfying project from first cut to binding.
