Description

As a kid, my dad took us to Fort Ticonderoga. It was one of many road trips through New England and the Mid-Atlantic. He loved taking us to historic places and setting the scene for us. The battle happened like this… or the family lived like that. I guess he was right on track with the living history movement.

Ticonderoga was one of my favorites. Maybe it was because of the ghost story attached to it, The Legend of Ticonderoga. A Scotsman named Duncan Campbell unknowingly shelters the man who killed his foster brother. The brother’s ghost visits him and prophesies that they will meet again at Ticonderoga. Years later, Campbell is fighting with the Black Watch regiment in the New York colony. They besiege the French fort, Fort Carillon, on the southern shore of Lake Champlain. During the battle, he receives a fatal wound and learns that the locals call the place Ticonderoga.

For those of you interested in history, this fort changed hands many times: from French to British to American, and back again.

Carillon honors the fort’s first name. Traditional star blocks ring a medallion center in rose, sage, and brown from Northcott’s An American Tale – Antiques Roadshow™ collection. Look for its sister quilt, Ticonderoga.
