Description
I am a shameless bird nerd. My backyard is a five-star resort for the feathered crowd — birdhouses on every post, garden debris left all winter on purpose, because apparently that’s what the cool birds want. I have a running life list, and the Meadow Lark is still on it — mocking me.
The experts tell me he’s out there in the marshes near Little Creek, Delaware — the same ones I drive through on a regular basis. Sitting on a fence post. Perched on a dock support. Singing his little heart out. And I have yet to catch him in the act. One of these days.
Until then, this quilt is my version. That glorious bird, framed in the sunflower-bright fabric from Elizabeth Studio’s Melody collection — every bit as eye-catching as the real thing, and considerably easier to photograph.
Quarter Square Triangles and Diamond in Square blocks create a pieced border that echoes the bold black-and-gold patterning of his wings. Striking. Graphic. Surprisingly satisfying to sew.
