Description
When I was 7, my mom enrolled my sister and me in Irish dance. We learned the traditional steps — the jig, the reel, the hornpipe. But our favorites were the line dances, especially the six-hand reel. Intricate sequences, lots of spinning, and a lot more raucous than the stately Regency dances you see on the BBC. More interactive than the Electric Slide, too. We’d egg on the fiddler or accordion player to speed up the tempo so we could really fly around the floor.
The diamonds set on point remind me of the more stately regency line dances. They march down the throw in tidy, repeating lines, each one framed by Hoffman’s Meadow Lane prints. Simple as the steps look at first glance, there’s real movement built into that formation.
