Some quilts start with fabric. This one started with a moment.

Banshee Bears was inspired by the black bears that roamed the woodlands near Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve — wild neighbors who mostly kept to themselves, slipping through the trees just beyond sight. But every now and then, you’d come around a bend and there they’d be, as surprised to see you as you were to see them. That quiet wildness lives in this quilt.

The centerpiece is a stunning panel from Elizabeth’s Studio’s Tender Moments collection — a mother bear and her cubs nestled in the forest understory, exactly the kind of scene you hope to stumble across and never forget. The frame around it was designed to honor them: a rich Walnut border grounds the panel like the forest floor, while the Bear Paw blocks anchoring each corner give a nod to the traditional quilt block that’s carried this creature’s name for generations.

At 65″ × 57″, Banshee Bears is generous enough to curl under on a cool evening and dramatic enough to hang on a wall. Skill level is Confident Beginner — the Bear Paw corners use Half Square Triangles, but the construction is clear and satisfying from first cut to final binding.

This is a quilt for anyone who has ever stood still in the woods, held their breath, and felt lucky.
