The Story Behind the Stitch
It all started with a shadow. I was working on a flower block and noticed the darker fabric underneath showing through a lighter petal. Frustrated, I called my mom for advice.
She said, “Use interfacing. I taught you that 50 years ago.” And just like that, a lightbulb went off.
What if I didn’t just fix the shadow? What if I used interfacing to add dimension? What if I could quilt first, add specialty stitches, and fuse everything together with texture?
That was the moment Applismith™ was born — and it hasn’t looked flat since.
What followed was years of experimenting, teaching, and refining — flower by flower, block by block. My mom’s offhand comment became a whole method. And now it’s yours to explore.
