Description

Winter is the season I spend indoors, tucked away from the cold and stitching in my upstairs studio. From that vantage point, I see the world a little differently—looking down on trees and shrubs and noticing how their branches radiate outward from their trunks.

That quiet winter view inspired Frosted Branches, the first block in my Winter Whispers collection and the opening chapter of Seasons.

When designing this block, I kept the symmetry and fusible appliqué that were so popular in Harvest Medallion. I also used a simple monochromatic color scheme that reflects the icy winters of my youth—crisp, calm, and quietly beautiful. Small shifts in fabric and value can change the feel of the block dramatically, making it a wonderful place to explore subtle contrast and mood.

Frosted Branches finishes at 12″, making it easy to use as a stand-alone block or as part of a larger seasonal project. It works beautifully in runners, medallions, and sampler-style quilts, and was designed to grow naturally into a cohesive winter collection.
