This month, the EQ8 Block Spotlight was Origami Stars. This is an unusual block for many reasons. First, it is a six pointed star, which makes designing interesting on a square grid. Hexagons, just seem more appropriate when dealing with six sided objects.
The origami star block is surrounded by a circle, which lent itself to being encompassed by another circle. The easiest way to do that was to use wedding ring blocks. Once you have one ring, why not two or three?
The black with shades of blue, remind me of black lacquer and mother of pearl inlays. So it has a bit of an Asian feel to it.

Happy Quilting!
