Winter Whispers was designed to be a series, and Glacial Hearts is the third block in that seasonal story.

Created specifically for a March release, this block brings together several things we tend to associate with this month—buds just starting to pop on the trees and bulbs emerging from the ground.

This very traditional block connects the beginnings of spring to the colors of winter and the love of February. Here in Delaware, we have not seen the flowers pop up yet. They may be a little shy after our series of winter storms. But those trees that survived the rampage are definitely starting to bud.

March is that traditional time to start your seeds inside and peruse the catalogs for this year’s plantings… and I don’t know about you, but it is the only time I get the cleaning bug.

March is that season where we wonder who will come first—the lamb or the lion. Either way, the clock springs us forward and our quilting time has to adjust.

This block finishes at 12″ and works beautifully as a pillow, sampler block, or part of the Winter Whispers runner or quilt.

You can grab your free copy of this month’s block here.

If you want to make it even quicker, the Winter Whispers Template and Stencil Kit works for Frosted Branches, Frozen Flowers, and two more!

And if you have your own cutter, you can purchase the SVG files here.

If you’d like to stitch along and compare notes, we’ll be gathering for Pillow Talk on March 18th at 3 PM.

Pillow Talk is a free, casual sew-along where we share progress, ideas, and start stitching Glacial Hearts together.
