Winter Whispers was designed to be a series, and Frozen Flowers is the second block in that seasonal story. Created specifically for a February release, this block brings together several things we tend to associate with this month—snow, hearts, and flowers.
You may notice heart shapes tucked into each arm of the motif, a quiet nod to Valentine’s Day and its themes of love and connection. The snow connection probably needs no explanation this year, especially for those of us on the East Coast.
The flowers, however, come from a more literal place. February is when many gardeners begin starting annuals indoors, and it’s also the season when certain flowers push through snow and cold. Crocuses, snowdrops, hellebores (Christmas or Lenten rose), and witch hazel all bloom during winter. And for those of us truly impatient for spring, paperwhite narcissus bloom indoors.
(And yes, paperwhites are beautiful… even if they make some of us sneeze something awful.)
Frozen Flowers is dedicated to those often-overlooked blooms that remind us what’s coming next, even in the darkest months.
This block finishes at 12″ and works beautifully as a pillow, sampler block, or part of the Winter Whispers runner or quilt.
