Frosted Branches — The First Block in the Winter Whispers Chapter of Seasons
Winter is the season I spend indoors, tucked away from the cold and stitching in my upstairs studio. From that vantage point, I see the world a little differently—looking down on trees and shrubs and noticing how their branches radiate outward from their trunks.
That quiet winter view inspired Frosted Branches, the first block in my new Winter Whispers collection and the opening chapter of Seasons.
When designing this block, I kept the symmetry and fusible appliqué that were so popular in Harvest Medallion. I also incorporated a simple monochromatic color scheme that reflects the feeling of the icy winters of my youth. I’ll be sharing more about those color choices in upcoming articles.
The Quilt Block Mania January edition is all about SNOW, which made it the perfect place to introduce this frosty addition to your free block collection.

Winter Whispers — What’s Coming Next
Frosted Branches is the first of three free blocks in the Winter Whispers collection. These blocks are designed as a coordinated set, making it easy to color-coordinate them or combine them into a larger project.
We’ll be sharing ideas for using these blocks in upcoming Quilt Alongs, where they come together in thoughtful, seasonal projects.
I can’t wait to share my finished block with you—and I hope you’ll share yours as well.
