Looking for color inspiration?
We visited Liberty Island during one of our trips to New York City. At first, I was disappointed at the weather. It would not be great for photos. Then, the sun was just in the right place, that golden hour, for a beautiful photograph. The sky was golden, and the clouds were teal. The statue of Liberty was cast in a perfect silhouette.
I decided to use it for today’s color palette. Then, I took those colors and put them into my Awaken pattern. I need an extra color for the wide border. I grabbed Hoffman Dots 885-101 Evening. Do you like the effect?
Trust Yourself with Color! Do you doubt yourself when selecting colors? If you do, pick a photo you like, find the pleasing colors in it. Then, match those colors to fabric. You can then translate those colors into a quilt!
I recommend finding a large solid/blender collection to use as your base. I picked Hoffman’s 1895 collection.

I loved seeing how you took the colors out of the photo and then matched fabric colors to them. They turned out great. I really like the way you used each color. It does take some talent to do that.
Thank you, Deborah. I really enjoy translating colors to images. I hope to build a library to help others pick winning combinations 🙂
That is definitely a winning combination. I love the colors!
Thank you, Gail!! This project has changed the way I view photography and how it links to my quilts.
