Wrapping Up 2020

Christmas Wreath

The end of an unbelievable 2020 is coming to a close. For many people 2020 will no longer mean 20/20 vision. It will mean “don’t ask what else can happen, because it will!” But that isn’t all bad, so good things happened this year and that is what I choose to focus upon this week.

This week I am setting out to accomplish three things. The first is to finish up some last minute items that are due on January 1st. There are always a few stragglers from after the Christmas rush. So it is time to get those done, so I can start the new year with a clean conscience. Speaking of a clean conscience, one of those last minute items is to clean up my mess from my last few projects, so that I can start the new year with a clean studio.

The second thing I would like to complete this year is a reflective review of everything I have accomplished in 2020. Considering all things, I learned a lot and accomplished more than I had planned. More on that later this week.

The last thing on my list is to set the foundation for a positive 2021. For shop owners, this means a bit of inventory and bookkeeping. For a designer, it means loosely making a design schedule for the new year. For tried and true business people, this may sound a bit artsy and risky. But designers are artists and you are never quite sure when inspiration will strike or it your brilliant design will seem as such by your audience. There are a few things that are a bit more concrete, like setting goals and arranging schedules for quilt-alongs, classes and blogs. This is a bit fluid too as you need to be able to pivot if some things don’t quite go as anticipated – be it good or bad. I will share a few of these with you later in the week. I will also seek your input on what you would like to see more of.

This week is housekeeping, reflection and planning. Will you be doing some of the same? Please share some of your end of the year rituals with us in the comments.

Happy Quilting
