Spring Fling

The Cherry Blossom festival in Washington DC marks the beginning of spring here. It starts the first weekend in spring and lasts a few weeks. During that time, the skyline is filled with pink and white buds, while the streets are filled with people (maybe not so many people this year). Leaves are just starting to sprout and the grass is beginning to grow. I have very fond memories of the Cherry Blossom festival, from my first visit in 1981 to participate in a marching band competition, training for the Avon 39 fundraising walk, and taking visiting friends and relatives to see what the buzz was all about. It truly is a beautiful time of year here.

That is one of the reasons I am so excited to introduce our latest quilt pattern – Spring Fling – which brings the Cherry Blossom Festival inside. This pattern is designed from traditional blocks of Springtime and Spring Has Come. With four gradations of pink and four gradations of green in the Hoffman Watercolors, it reminds me of the cherry blossoms that are beginning to bloom around the DC area.

The quilt comes together relatively easily with stitch and flip techniques, economy blocks, and two at a time half square triangles

I want to thank Laura Willard for sending pictures of the beautiful blocks she completed. Aren’t they beautiful! I can’t want to see her finished quilt. I love to see finished quilts from our patterns and appreciate when people send them to me.

I hope this adds a little spring to your step. The pattern is available for download, shipping from our shop, or wholesale.

Happy Quilting,

Laureen
