Watch this video to learn some of my tricks for making fusible applique! To explain how I assembled the block, I made a video for you. I spent a lot of time talking about fabric marking as it is so important when you are making fusible appliques.
When making the block, I made two critical decisions. First, I was going to place the colors UNDER the palette. With that placement, I could use one color for securing the motif rather than multiple colors. Second, I was going to secure the applique at the same time as quilting. That minimized my stitching!
I used Pellon 82 to make the project, which provided more stability and a little extra height when fusing. This also meant, that I had to be a little more care to keep things level. Under a portion of the brush handle, I used an extra layer of fusible to minimize “bumps.”
Because I chose a light background, I added a little black thread painting around the block to accentuate the edges. Think about using a black pen to trace around the edges of a watercolor to provide more definition.
