Monday Morning

Like most of you, Monday morning is the start of a new work week for me. Granted my work week and weekends tend to blend together as I work from home and my hobby is also my profession. During the week, I am designing, writing instructions, and testing pieces. On the weekend, I work on my personal projects at my sewing machine or longarm while my loving husband watches our two fur babies.

This past weekend was a departure from this routine, which has been in place for the past two years. For the first time in two years, I ventured farther than the grocery store. I am one of those people who has to be super careful. We went to visit family in Upstate New York. Taking the fur babies was out of the question as most hotels put a limit of 50 lbs on the fur babies, if they allow them at all. (Rigby, the puppy, is 95 lbs and Fergus is 150 lbs, so I am pretty sure we couldn’t sneak them in) Therefore, our eldest son and a house sitter took turns watching them.

The long car ride from Virginia to New York was the perfect opportunity to get organized on my computer and bind a quilt (I will post that tomorrow). We drove up US Route 15 through Pennsylvania, along the Susquehanna River. In warmer weather, this route offers beautiful scenery that includes Amish quilt stands set up along the road. As it was cooler, a few horses with buggies were the only glimpses of the Amish we had on this trip.

We arrived back home last night after the quick trip and a much-needed visit with family. The fur babies definitely were glad to see us but let us know that leaving for two days was not acceptable. How do I know? When I design, I usually sit on our comfy couch with my laptop. This morning, as I reached for my laptop, Fergus sat on my lap. He usually sits next to me, not on me. As logic has it, it is hard to put a laptop on your lap when it is already covered by a dog who weighs more than you. Apparently, he was telling me I am not allowed to leave like that again. His message was clear and now he is letting me work again. I had better get busy and get another set of instructions written up before Fergus thinks I need another reminder that my place is here.

I hope you all have a wonderful week, and this gave you a little giggle.

Happy Quilting
