February 1st, we start the Kitty in the Middle Quilt Along. This quilt along will help beginners learn several blocks and hone the technical skills of more experienced quilters. There are eight different blocks in the quilt – we don’t want to use up the kitty’s nine lives!

The quilt was designed for Dear Stella’s Les Chat Noir collection by Leezaworks. The fabrics are expected to be in stores this month, so watch your favorite shops for it.

If you are nota black and white or tiger cat fan, you can pick your own fabrics from your stash to make a calico cat. Or perhaps you prefer an orange tabby cat? Once you join the quilt along, you will get a coloring sheet so that you can decide what fabrics you may want to use.

For the quilt-along, we will be posting in Facebook as it allows you to share what you have done. That is one of the bonuses of a quilt-along – sharing with and learning from others!

The schedule for the quilt-along is:

  • February 1 – Kickoff with fabric selections and fabric preparation.
  • February 15 – Puss is the Corner (center piece)
  • March 1 – Cats and Mice
  • March 15 – Cat’s Cradle
  • March 29 – Kitty
  • April 12 – Kitty Corner
  • April 26 – Puss in the Corner – Take 2
  • May 10 – Puss in the Corner – Take 3
  • May 24 – Cat’s Cradle – Take 2
  • June 7 – Quilt Assembly

During each week, we will provide tips and tricks through Facebook Live sessions. We encourage each of you to post your progress. The comradery you build through that sharing provides a lot of incentive to keep this from becoming another UFO! Don’t worry if you don’t start “on time.” We will keep admissions open through the quilt-along. There are no progress police, so make it at your own pace and know that we are there to help.

For this quilt-along, the only requirement is to purchase the pattern (sold separately). When you checkout in our shop, you can add the quilt along for free! I know many quilters look for bargains. Many quilt-alongs are free, AFTER you pay to join a group. This is much the same. Quilt designers spend time and energy designing the quilt, making it with you on the quilt along, and keeping the quilt along interesting for you to stay with it. So please when you see quilt-alongs that ask for payment or require you to purchase a pattern, remember you are supporting a small business.

Happy Quilting and we hope you join!
